Ravens Piano Camp

Program Description: Ravens Piano Camp enriches piano students' skills in rhythm, note reading, music theory, music history, and performing through rotational daily classes and master class performances. Campers will be grouped by age and skill level for classes, and master classes will be attended by all.

Hands on instruction is provided by highly-qualified and experienced music instructors. The week will end with a solo and duet recital highlighting campers' work through the week.

**Please Note: Attending campers need to have at least 3 months of prior piano instruction. Solo pieces are required to be memorized and ready to perform before the camp begins. Duet music will be learned during the camp week. The deadline for online registration will be Monday, July 11th (two weeks prior to the start of the camp program). What to Bring: Pianos and smart boards are provided. Campers will need to bring their lunch, piano books, pencil and paper daily. As well, campers should bring their lunch each day.

Instructors: Dr. Melodie King Bobbitt began teaching piano through Ravenscroft School in 2015, but her teaching years began in 1994. She served as a private, group, and camp music lessons instructor through the Samford University Academy of the Arts from 1996-2015, and she was the Assistant Director of the Samford University Academy of the Arts from 2004-2015. Currently, she is a Distance Learning Piano Instructor though the Academy of the Arts. On the collegiate level, Dr. Bobbitt has taught Piano Pedagogy and Class Piano courses through the University of Montevallo and Class Piano courses through Samford University. Dr. Bobbitt is a 1999 Magna Cum Laude graduate with a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance from Samford University, she is a 2001 graduate from the University of Alabama with a Masters of Music Degree in piano performance, and she is a 2008 graduate from The University of Alabama with a Doctorate of Musical Arts in piano performance. In the musical community, Dr. Bobbitt is a member of the following music teacher organizations: N.C.M.T.A, R.P.T.A., B.M.T.A. (past President, Vice-President, and Chair of Piano Solo Festival and current Gold Cup Chair), M.T.N.A. and A.M.T.A. (past State Auditions Coordinator, Secretary, and Judges’ Clinician).

Mrs. Claudia Hinson has been a member of the Ravenscroft team since 2008, and has over 30 years of pedagogical and performance experience. She is an active, collaborative pianist in the Triangle area and beyond, working with vocalists, instrumentalists, and ensembles in both classical and theatrical genres. She currently serves as Interim Pianist at North Raleigh United Methodist Church. She has served as Staff Accompanist at Meredith College for many years. Other performing experience includes Raleigh Little Theatre and North Carolina Theatre productions. She has played for camps, classes, and productions with the North Carolina Theatre's Conservatory, as well as their Summer Theatre Arts School. As a Magna Cum Laude graduate of East Carolina University, she earned her Bachelor of Music Degree in Piano Pedagogy and Music Business, with two years concentration in Performance and Music Therapy. Further education includes Summa Cum Laude honors from The University of Georgia, where she completed her Master of Education in 1994. As teacher, church musician, professional accompanist, and adjudicator, she has had the privilege of working with many professionals and students all over the state. Professional memberships include RPTA, NCMTA, as well as MTNA, where she has served and co-chaired on many committees.

A trained vocalist, pianist, and music educator, Rebecca Ledford holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Campbell University. She holds a North Carolina K-12 Teachers License and maintains an active membership with National Association of Music Educators, where she served as president of Campbell University's chapter for 3 years. She has performed abroad in Ireland, Austria, and Czech Republic. Rebecca is excited to be part of the Ravenscroft faculty this year, having preciously been a music educator in Harnett County Schools. When she is not teaching at Ravenscroft, Rebecca also teaches private lessons at Cary School of Music and serves as a featured soloist and guest conductor for First Presbyterian Church of Sanford.

Mrs. Katie O'Neill joined the Lower School and Fine Arts Departments in 2015 as the General Music instructor for Pre-Kindergarten through grade 3. A trained vocalist, conductor and educator, she holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Education with a concentration in voice from Meredith College, as well as a Master of Music in Music Education, K-12 from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Katie teaches private piano at Ravenscroft and has been for 3 years.
